WHAT IS MENOPAUSE?
Chinese medicine believes that, from 42 onwards, the functions of a woman's liver and kidney begin to decline, and even weaker when approaching 50-- this is the stage of menopause-- disharmony of the yin and yang, deficiency in the vitalities of the qi, blood, liver and kidney. Menstrual disorder and lack of vitality are among the early indications of menopause. It is a natural process in life, it only needs proper upkeep of health and some bodily adjustment to prevent kidney and liver failure or some other serious illnesses.

WHAT IS MENOPAUSE SYNDROME?
Menopause syndrome is a series of conscious and abnormal symptoms, which may bring negative effects to the quality of life and affect the efficiency in work. However, its acuteness varies with the individual - some sail through this period smoothly, but others may experience a certain degree of suffering, to the extent that it affects the family's harmony.

During menopause, the qi of the kidneys gradually declines, the two meridians, Chong and Ren become weakened; menstruation and the reproduction ability gradually decrease and finally stop. These are natural and normal physiological changes for women. However, some of them, due to differences in the physical conditions and the living environments, may not be able to adapt to this physiological transition. This may lead to the imbalance of the yin and yang, the lack of coordination of the qi in the organs and viscera, resulting in a series of uncomfortable symptoms.

These symptoms include dizziness, sweating, palpitations, insomnia, irritability, dry throat, bitter saliva, hot flashes, tinnitus; or swelling of the face and lower limbs, poor appetite (anorexia), loose stools (watery stools); menstrual disorders, or emotionally restless. These symptoms vary in their severity and may arise on and off, with irregularity. These conditions may last for a few months, a year or two, or may continue for several years, disturbing the normal life or work.
