Kuo Kong Chiew is prepared and refined on a secret recipe left behind by Shih Kuo Kong, a duke of the Ming Dynasty whose surname is Shih. Hence the name “Infused wine of Duke Shih”. As the wine was widely used both at court and among the folk the recipe was recorded in the medical book published at the time.
As a result of systematization by the Imperial Hospital of the Ching Dynasty, the recipe was handed down during the reign of Emperor Tao Kuang as a patent to Tong Ren Tang, the formal Imperial Drug Store and renamed Kuo Kong Chiew Mellow in flavour and fragrant in smell, it will make you healthy if taken regularly.
